Water Safety - Staying Safe

Water can be a very dangerous element and has to be taken with great care. It is important that non swimmers are kept an eye on and looked after by parents when on the beach or any where where they come in contact with water.

According to ROSPA drowning is the most type of accidental death in the UK.
The govenment believes this is due to the lack of awareness in water safety to young children.
Thats why the STA is bringing in more water safety to younger children in the Goldfish and Angelfish series. Even in the Octopus series the children are being asked to answer water safety questions.

Below are some points about general water safety at home, on the beach and on the poolside.

On the Beach

  1. The sea can be very dangerous (currents, wind, motor craft). Keep children under strict supervision.
  2. Rock Pools can be good fun for crab fishing but can be highly dangerous. Slippery edges and rocks may cause small children to fall in. So hold childrens hands when on the rocks.
  3. Quick sand can be very dangerous if you get caught in it. Lay flat in the sand to spread the surface area and crawl your way out slowly.
